Supporting 150 Milton ward campaigners to save mature trees on the green site around St James Hospital. We found when we got there that the council had already chopped 4 trees down. We suspect that this is in preparation for building 140 houses on the site. Although residents recognise the need for new accommodation their aim in their year long campaign was to preserve the wild life, flora, fauna and trees and campaign for a few less houses. This week planning permission was granted by the council for the development. However local people are developing a local neighbourhood plan in order to have more of a say in what facilities and green spaces they can hold onto in an already overcrowded and dense city.
